CHILD AND ADULT ORTHOTICS
The orthotic service at our clinic is of huge benefit to children & adult patients with symptoms of back, hip, knee, shin-splints, heel, foot & ankle pain and abnormal walking and running patterns. With more than 20 years orthotic prescription experience, we can provide comfortable & supportive bespoke orthotics for every type of foot problem.
An orthotic is a prescribed custom made orthopaedic insole to be worn in footwear to correct any mal alignment or imbalance, which is specific to the patient. Foot mal alignment can contribute to injury especially in the context of sport & running.
Orthotic treatment will help the following symptoms:
Back Pain
Hip Pain
Knee Pain
Foot/Ankle Pain
Sports Injury
Poor Balance
WHAT DOES AN ORTHOTIC ASSESSMENT INVOLVE?
During the consultation process the expert clinician conducts a thorough patient assessment covering the following key areas:
- Detailed history of the problem
- Biomechanical assessment of the lower limb
- Standing posture & gait (walking/running) assessment
- Examination of foot function & mobility
- Prescribe an appropriate stretch & strengthening programme (as indicated)
- Appropriate foot wear, lacing patterns & runner advice.
ARE THERE DIFFERENT TYPES OF ORTHOTICS?
Our clinic sources the optimal orthotic devices from multiple suppliers and orthotic laboratories worldwide. Following detailed assessment we can prescribe either a customised simple device (price range €25 – €80 per pair) depending on the patients needs.
With certain conditions a fully custom made bespoke orthotic is required and these orthotics are manufactured by methods including plaster of paris moulding, foam boxes or a digital scan of the patients feet. These devices require 2-3 weeks laboratory manufacturing time and are a more permanent longterm solution. Price range (€250 – €295 per pair) depending on the laboratory and materials used.
Your experienced clinician will advise you as to the most cost effective & appropriate device.
WHY DO CHILDREN NEED ORTHOTICS?
We inherit our adult foot type from our parents and this genetic coding can often present in our children in various ways:
- Toe Walkers
- Flat Feet
- High Arches
- Toeing – In
- Toeing-Out
- Poor Balance/ Clumsiness
- Knock-kneed

”Top class service from Michael Gallagher - many times over the years has "fixed me" with sensible and practical solutions and advice, including one occasion where others had suggested more drastic actions which would have had serious implications for myself. Highly recommended!

”Thanks to Michael and the team at Baily Point Physio. After visiting them in August with knee problems they sorted me out with orthotic insoles and an exercise routine. Since then (2months ago) I have climbed Kilimanjaro twice with no knee problems – a great result. Highly recommend them.
